About Berkeley Foundation
Established by the Berkeley Group in 2011, the Berkeley Foundation has committed over £18 million to more than 130 charities and worthy causes since its inception.
2021 marked their 10th anniversary and the 2021 Annual review was an opportunity to celebrate this important milestone.
Our Challenge
We were asked to create a design concept that celebrated their first decade of achievements in supporting over 130 charities. The celebration was also an opportunity to announce the Foundations new strategy and focus on their work looking forward to the next ten years.
Our Strategy
Using the theme of a journey, we used the title ‘Our journey so far’ for the ten year review to communicate two messages, that the work continues onwards and the level of support the Foundation has provided to its charity partners over ten years.
We created a special anniversary logo for use on the review and other communications collateral and developed a visual timeline, interspersed with illustrations drawn in a continuous line along the timeline. This reflects the journey theme and used to pick out and emphasise key Berkeley Foundation milestone events and achievements over the first ten years. The illustration starts on the front cover and runs throughout the review in parallel to content on each page, drawing attention to specific data points, achievements or events relevant to the main narrative.
The timeline was further brought to life in a campaign developed for social media through the use of animation, showing the line being drawn and creating the individual illustrations as the journey or story is revealed. A poster campaign utilising the content, images and the illustrated timeline was produced for display in Berkeley Group offices to maintain engagement with the staff that contribute so much to the fundraising efforts and success of the foundation.
